ShadeLab @ #ISME16

ShadeLab PI Ashley and grad students John, Taylor, and Jackson traveled to Montreal this week to attend the 16th meeting of the International Society for Microbial Ecology. This is the largest (and, arguably, geekiest) meeting of microbial ecologists in the WORLD, and it only happens every two years.

It was an action-packed meeting, with Jackson presenting a poster on Centralia soil metagenome analysis on Tuesday, and Taylor and John presenting their posters on soil microbial arsenic tolerance and synthetic microbial communities on Thursday. Ashley co-convened a session on Ecological Theory Thursday afternoon with UQAM's Steve Kembel, and also gave a talk on mechanisms of microbial community assembly in response to the Centralia fire in the after same session.

John was popular at his poster!

We had an EDAMAME reunion Wednesday night, with learners from all three year's of EDAMAME (2014-2016) in attendance!

Thanks for a great meeting, and we'll see you in 2018 at ISME17 in Leipzig!

Ashley dragged everyone to dim sum for lunch.
