Ashley Shade and MMG graduate student Jackson Sorensen traveled to Walnut Creek to attend the 2016 Joint Genome Institute User's Meeting.
Jackson presented a poster on his analysis of the microbial ecology of the Centralia, PA coal mine-fire impacted soils. This ongoing project is supported by a JGI Small Scale Community Science Program project in 2015. JGI provided untargeted metagenome sequencing of twelve soils spanning a fire gradient in Centralia.
Ghirardelli samples for everyone!
Jackson's poster title:
Soil microbial community responses to a subterranean coal mine fire revealed by metagenome analysis
Check out his abstract in the 2016 User Meeting Abstract booklet.
