Melissa Sleda from Lawrence Technological University joined ShadeLab for the summer as part of the Great Lakes BioEnergy Center Research Experience for Undergraduates program. As part of her research project, Melissa curated a collection of microbial isolates living on the surfaces of switchgrass, an important bioenergy crop studied by the GLBRC, and by the ShadeLab for understanding phytobiome ecology.
Melissa presented her results at the Mid-Michigan Symposium for Undergraduate Research Experiences (July 27 2016), and afterwards the ShadeLab went for ice cream from the MSU Dairy Store to celebrate her success.
We'll miss you, Melissa! Thanks for your awesome contributions to our lab's research this summer!
