Job description:

Michigan State University is one of the top institutions for research in both plant science and microbial ecology. One position for a postdoctoral research associate is available in the laboratory of Ashley Shade in the Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics (http://ashley17061.wixsite.com/shadelab). We seek an excellent post-doctoral associate to conduct research to understand the drivers of plant-associated microbial communities and how they influence plant resilience to stress. Strong quantitative skills and experience with bioinformatic and statistical analyses of microbial communities is expected. The successful applicant will be independent, motivated, and able to work as part of a collaborative team. S/he will have proven skills in microbiology and molecular laboratory techniques, as well as strong writing and communication skills. Experience in conducting greenhouse or field experiments will be viewed favorably. A familiarity with ecological and evolutionary theories will be viewed favorably. Applicants should hold a PhD in a field related to plant, soil, microbial sciences, ecology, or bioinformatics/genomics. The position will be part of the Plant Resilience Institute (http://research.msu.edu/plant-resilience-institute/) at Michigan State. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to interact with a wide range of researchers in ecology and evolution, microbiology, and plant and soil sciences.
